Five Things I left Behind When I Turned 61

For simplicity at 61, these are a few things that I eliminated from my life. It's amazing how much unnecessary clutter we keep in our life because of habit, with no valid reason for their continuance. Five things I left behind were, white sugar, soap, pop, coffee and shampoo.  This list is just the start of my vision to simplify my life, to toss aside imagined necessity.

First there was this notion that only store bought shampoo would do for proper hair care. GONE!  Next came the insight to the harmful effects of sugar, on my body. GONE!  Coffee was a no brainer, it just made me to nervous, and the withdrawal was just too painful. GONE! I'm very vain and pop or soda as some call it, has an extremely adverse effect on my lovely complexion. GONE! Vanity steps in again, as I am finally enlightened to the true drying and aging effects of soap, this longtime beauty staple.  GONE!  So there it is the five things I left behind, no regret, no looking back

For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

#01 BLESSED

Just what is it we think about when we make the comment “God has really blessed me.” I know for me, what I’m really trying to convey is my contentment in where I’m at in the now of life. Each new day when I first wake up, my initial thought is, “Thank you, Lord for the black and grey I can see in this room.” Its still dark outside, and the room is not fully illuminated with color, all is in shadow and quiet, for this I am grateful. Slowly and gently my senses are allowed to be awakened to the day. Its not until I’m out of the bedroom, and the door is shut on a still sleeping husband, I’ve made it to our tiny bathroom and turn on its light that I am rewarded with the glory of color. I then think again, “God has blessed me,” content and happy in the now of God’s favor.

As I’ve grown in the favor and wisdom of having a committed relationship with God, there have been many such witnessed blessings. I’m older now and I take none of God’s manner of blessing as trivial incidents, because they are the reality of living. God has really blessed me.

The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.                                                                Psalm 138:8

The Inner Traveler

I am a traveler, each day when I walk, I am traveling. Even
though I go the same distance each day, a traveler I am. Right then and there I began to notice my surroundings and saw things I'd been missing for weeks.  There were flowers sprouting up, trees turning leafy and green. Surrounding me were the sounds of birds, and barking dogs acknowledging me, all mixed with the rhythmic swoosh of daily traffic.

For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of our own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

21 Days and Its a Habit

We are jumping and shouting today, we've finished our walk, marking 21 days of hitting the pavement for health. Its been said if you do a thing for 21 days straight it becomes a habit, Moses and I are setting  the goal of daily walking as part of a healthy lifestyle.  Thursday of this past week we both got up with the same desire, not to walk, to put it off until tomorrow, so we laced up our gym shoes and het the street.  Then there was the day we rose up to pouring rain, and had to wait until the weather cleared before we set off for our daily constitution. Victory!!!!! Now as far as weight lost has gone, we have neither gained or lost any weight in the pass seven days, so I'm happy. We have seen figure changes, a little tighter at the waist; less sagging of the abdomen and feeling better throughout the day.

But the path of the just is as shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.
Proverbs 4:18

The Long and Winding Road

We are at day 14 of our joint walking regime. Moses and I walk flat terrain one day and take the hilly walkways on the other. We have been doing just great, feeling better with each daily walk, rising early to get our stretching in before we leave the house. Eating has become a more conscious effort, and I guess I got it wrong this week eating a large amount of freshly baked bread each day. Moses has been more reserved, drinking veggie smoothies, and eating steamed veggies. For the next few days I'll follow Moses lead and eat more veggies, less bread, (which he will have to stop baking).

I'm glad we are doing this together, the walks are not only good for our health, it gives us uninterrupted time to talk about things on our minds. We both take time , even though we are walking briskly to admire the flowers and trees freshly blooming around us---I really love walking.

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.     1 Peter 5:7

The Road Less Travelled

It has been just nine days, since my husband and I began our joint walking regime.  I retired recently and one of my main goals was to resume my walking habit.  Now my husband has been wanting to get back into exercising, but kept coming up with regular excuses, and regular weight increases.  We are an old married couple, 35 years, so doing things together should come naturally by now.  Here's how we have started, I get up 3 hours before we need to leave the house for our walk, and then badger him to get ready for our walk.  This is how we look as we start on our journey to good habits, and good health.

Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.
Rejoice in the Lord, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.
Psalm 97" 11, 12
